International Law-Firm Global Launch
Hippotizers provide last-minute solution for corporate launch
March 2012 saw the official merger of two law-firms from different parts of the world into a global law firm. The launch event for this prestigious partnership took place at the Four Season’s Grand Ballroom in Hong Kong and in keeping with the venue and its guests, Sydney – based event organiser G1 Productions planned a dazzling classy evening.
Technical consultant and supplier Avollusion was drafted in at the 11th hour to organise this large scale projection project that G1 Productions had in mind.
For the event the ballroom was fitted with a 42m x 4m seamless projection screen made up of three separate walls at 45 degrees to each other. The custom content at full 8128×882 native resolution, plus Live inputs, were to be projected onto this curved screen as one seamless image sequence.
With barely two weeks for the preparations and a set-up time of only 6 hours, Avollusion needed a system that could easily be configured on arrival and allowed flexible control within this limited timeframe and space.
Accommodating enough projectors in the venue at the right distance to create a smooth projection over this enormous surface created an extra challenge for Avollusion who organised the set-up using two sets of projectors for the two parts of the wall. For the longer side they chose 3x Christie HD18K projectors running at full HD but overshooting, while the shorter sides were covered by 2x Christie WU12K projectors that were aligned to fit the screen but used slightly less than HD resolution. The combination of different power projectors but inversely proportional image sizes was due to the unique projector placements.
In order to achieve the perfect blend in colours and consistent brightness throughout the image, Avollusion decided on Green Hippo’s media servers for the video control. Two Hippotizer HD media servers, purchased by Avollusion via Green Hippo’s Hong Kong distributor Ten Thousand Things, and one GrassHopper, supplied for the event by TTT, were used to facilitate this panoramic projection. Hippotizer’s UberPan component enabled the three Hippotizers to work together and create one single 42m canvas.
Avollusion’s Justin Choy stated: “Uberpan was the star of the show, enabling us to tie the project together using only ten minutes to setup. Uberpan allowed us to join the odd aspect ratios together without any effort. The end result was a perfect full resolution seamless image that utterly wowed the crowd.”
Using UberPan, Avollusion were able to split and encode the full high resolution content onsite while the ScreenWarp feature helped to align the projection, accommodating the curved screen and allowing them to play back anything the client requested.
As always, G1 Productions supplied dazzling full resolution content that impressed with style. Being one of the only content producer’s that consistently strive to create the best high-res media, the end-result was nothing short of spectacular.
Ten Thousand Thing’s Mike Clingman comments: “Avolusion’s client (G1 Productions) was very happy that they could create and hand over the video in full format and save days in the editing studio not having to cut and render pieces for each projector. They loved using Hippotizer and after a short learning curve they found it really easy to use. And UberPan was awesome!”
